One Final Adventure
After celebrating his 44th birthday, Bennett was considering putting an end to his data-gathering trips that have taken him to all ends of the Earth. He was acutely aware that his aging increased the chances of things going wrong while on an expedition, and had generally grown a bit tired of travelling as well. He looked into taking up a teaching position at Reading, which the University staff seemed receptive to. He told Jones about this plan, who accepted his decision but wanted to continue doing expeditions of his own, as he still had a thirst and capacity for adventure.
Bennett was unsure of what to think when (SCIENTIFIC LEADER) reached out to him and Jones, asking them to join the scientific team for the Enlightenment Expedition. He had really wanted their previous Antarctic trip to be their last one, but Jones had really wanted to have one last adventure together. He also felt unsure about turning down (SCIENTIFIC LEADER)'s request, and feared what the eventual separation would do to their relationship. Deep down he wished that Jones would eventually start slowing down his adventures too, and became increasingly nervous about the associated risks of these trips, but kept these concerns to himself as best he could. Bennett eventually agreed to Jones's request and accepted (SCIENTIFIC LEADER)'s invitation.
